Certification in Humanitarian Logistics
Certification in Humanitarian Logistics (CHL) is offered as part of the Fritz Institute/CILT (UK) Humanitarian Logistics Certification Programme.
CHL was developed with funding from DFID, ECHO and USAID, by experienced logisticians from ICRC, the International Rescue Committee, Medecins Sans Frontieres (Holland), Oxfam (GB), Save the Children (US), UNICEF, UNHCR, and WFP.
There is a series of frequently asked questions provided below but for a full guide to the programme, please click here:
Should I participate?
The Certification in Humanitarian Logistics is ideal for people who are working (or who intend to work) within humanitarian organisations in supply chain functions. There are no academic prerequisites; although the candidate must be competent in English. Candidates who wish to study in French should consider studying for the Certification en Logistique Humanitaire
What are the benefits of the programme?
CHL raises the profile of logisticians and the importance of logistics in the provision of aid. It supports the creation of common processes, standards, and vocabulary across organizations, increasing the effectiveness of collaboration. Finally, standardised training will lead to increased competence and professionalism in the field, ultimately resulting in improved service to end beneficiaries.
How will I learn?
The CHL programme is competence rather than knowledge based. Participants are therefore required to show how they would apply the knowledge they have gained in a humanitarian environment. The innovative learning process is based on a case study of a simulated relief operation, supported by extensive learning materials and interactive coaching.
How long does it take?
The duration of the programme is determined by the pace at which the student works. The course consists of 65 tasks, each of which should take about four hours. Students are encouraged to complete one task a week but anyone who wishes to work faster than this can be comfortably accommodated.
Exemptions?
