Fritz Institute / CILT (UK) Certification in Humanitarian Logistics program wins the European Supply Chain Excellence Award for Training and Professional Development

LONDON –– On November 1st in London, The Fritz Institute / CILT (UK) Certification in Humanitarian Logistics (CHL) was awarded the European Supply Chain Excellence Award for Training and Professional Development.  The award was presented to the Fritz Institute in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) and Logistics Learning Alliance.  Also short-listed for the award, which was sponsored by BiS Henderson, were BAE Systems, DHL Supply Chain, and Gist.

In making the selection of CHL as the winner, the judges looked for evidence of significant developments in supply chain professional development programs within an organization or their field as well as strategic use of training programs for the logistics and supply chain functions.

About receiving the award, Lynn Fritz said, “Selection of CHL as the winner is a testament to the professional quality of the program and its achievements to-date.”

CHL represents sustained collaboration among the primary actors in humanitarian logistics.  The content was developed by a team of experts from ICRC, the International Rescue Committee, Medecins Sans Frontiers (Holland), Oxfam (GB), Save the Children (US), UNICEF, UNHCR, WFP, and continues to be supported by those same organizations through the ongoing Advisory Committee.  Delivery of CHL is through a multi-national partnership: the course is managed and sponsored by the Fritz Institute, CILT (UK) is the awarding organization for the qualification, and Logistics Learning Alliance is the administrating and coaching agency.

Since its launch in 2006, over a thousand students have enrolled in the course, coming from over 200 agencies across the humanitarian sector.  Graduates report increased understanding, confidence and improved skills on the job gained as a result of taking the courses, as well as increased employment opportunities and promotions coming about from their Fritz Institute/CILT (UK) certification.  Effectiveness of the courses continues to be validated by supporting organizations such as ICRC, who has recently made completion of MedLog and either CHL or CLH a requirement to be considered for promotion to Logistics Coordinator.
