Logistics Qualifications In the current business climate, to compete effectively, industry is placing more and more emphasis on recruiting better qualified and more professional logistics and supply chain personnel. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) programme of professional qualifications has been specifically designed to meet this need. Whether you are a manager seeking to elevate the profile, competence and professionalism of a group of your people , or an individual about to embark upon a new career within the professional, a CILT (UK) qualification will enable you or your team to fully demonstrate a commitment to a chosen career and provide the skills and knowldege needed for success in today's dynamic commercial world. While supply chain knowledge must be systematically maintained at the highest possible level, simply having the skills may not be sufficient to underpin a successful career development strategy. Holders of professional logistics qualifications can display tangible evidence of their knowledge and ability and these qualifications are being taken increasingly seriously. Level Two: Introductory Certificate in Logistics and Transport. How long should it take to complete the Introductory Certificate programme by Supported Self Study? Uniquely, Logistics Learning Alliance has broken the qualification down into approximately 30 units of work. Each piece of work typically takes two to three hours. We encourage our students to complete one unit a week (although we are delighted when they work faster than this) and therefore they should complete the programme in just over six months. Students' Guide to the Certificate in Logistics and Transport Level Five: Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT (UK) Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport provides recognition of the professional knowledge and skills of middle managers working in a logistics environment.Linked to a minimum of one year’s appropriate experience, the Professional Diploma leads to membership of the Institute of Logistics and Transport and Transport at the Members grade (MCILT (UK).
Typically candidates will hold middle management positions, such as, Distribution Manager, Production Planning Materials Manager, Warehouse Manager, Transport Manager, Inventory Manager. This is also may be a suitable level for graduates entering the function.

The Advanced Diploma is a pre MSc level course and is intended for senior supply chain managers who are in, or wish to move into, strategic roles. Candidates should ideally have completed the Professional Diploma programme or be able to provide evidence of their experience in a strategic supply chain role. Typically, candidates will hold management positions where they are required to make or influence strategic decisions within their company. All candidates to this programme should have completed the CILT Diploma in Logistics or the L5 Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport although direct entry may be possible for those candidates with relevant experience at the appropriate level. How long should it take to complete the Advanced Diploma programme by Supported Self Study? The complete Advanced Diploma in Logistics programme
requires approximately 420 hours work, Typically students complete
the distance learning course in eighteen months to two years i.e.
four to five hours work per week. Students' Guide to the Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Transport Certification in Humanitarian Logistics The Certification in Humanitarian Logistics was developed in collaboration with the Fritz Institute and an inter-agency committee consisting primarily of the Heads of Logistics from major humanitarian organizations (for example ICRC,IRC, MSF, WFP, Oxfam, Save the Children, UNICEF, UNHCR). The qualification was designed to meet their requirements for trained, skilled and qualified humanitarian logistics professionals and is an equivalent to a UK Level 4 qualification. Should I participate? The Certification in Humanitarian Logistics is ideal for people who are working (or intend to work) within humanitarian organizations in supply chain functions. There are no academic prerequisites; although the candidate must be fluent in English. What will I learn? The program is comprised of seven mandatory units that cover the entire supply chain including: Humanitarian Supply Chains, Procurement, Warehouse & Inventory, Transport, Fleet Management, Import/Export and Managing a Humanitarian Supply Chain Response. How will I learn? The Certification in Humanitarian Logistics is competence rather than knowledge based. Participants are therefore required to apply the knowledge they have gained in a humanitarian environment. The innovative learning process is based on the study of a simulated relief operation, supported by extensive learning materials and interactive coaching. Candidates are presented with a series of challenging objectives, reflecting the outcome they are working on. The achievement of these objectives will enable candidates to demonstrate how they will improve the operation of the logistics elements supporting the delivery of a humanitarian program. They will be required to undertake a detailed analysis of the current and anticipated requirements, the development of options to meet those requirements and finally the implementation of the best option. This tactical level qualification has now been launched and by way of introduction, some answers to frequently asked questions are provided below Who is the CHSCM intended for ? The CHSCM has been developed to meet the training needs of people who are actually engaged in managing and coordinating complex logistics and supply chain activities in a humanitarian environment. After registration candidates may be required to provide supplementary information to confirm that potential students have the necessary experience to be able to respond adequately to the demands of the course. Candidates not yet working at an appropriate level should consider enrolling for the Certification in Humanitarian Logistics. What are the enrolment dates? There are no specific start dates – candidates can enrol and commence their studies whenever they wish. How is the learning delivered? The learning delivery method is by coach supported self study.. The student is sent a disk with the reference material and a simulated case study of a fictitious aid agency in which you will take an operational role. Each task is then sent sequentially by e-Mail, submission of the work associated with task number one will trigger off the dispatch of task number two and so on to the completion of the programme. Central to the course is access to a specialist coach who will support and guide students throughout the programme. The participants’ locations are not an issue as long as they have access to e-Mail - we have distance learning students all over the world How long does the CHSCM take to complete? The duration of the programme is determined by the pace at which the student works. The course consists of 10 tasks, each of which should take about 30 hours. Students are encouraged to complete one task every six weeks but anyone who wishes to work faster than this can be comfortably accommodated. Students working at this pace can expect to complete the programme in less than 18 months. Is it possible to gain exemptions from any element of the course?
